Let’s break down the Quints section on the 2026 National Mah Jongg League card. This is a section that often feels intimidating, but is a great option if you have the right tiles!
In this video, I walk through all three hands in the Quints section, how to build them, and when they’re actually worth committing to.
My rule: I don’t play a Quints hand unless I start with at least 3 Jokers. Because every quint requires a joker, and each hand in this section requires at least two quints, your Joker count matters from the very beginning.
Inside this breakdown:
- Step-by-step walkthrough of all three Quints hands
- Why Joker count determines whether you should even consider this section
- How to evaluate your tiles right out of the deal
- Where flexibility exists within each hand
- Easy pivot hand options so you always have a good backup plan
We also cover smart pivot section, including:
- Any Like Numbers
- Winds & Dragons
- 13579 (including the floating pairs hand)
- Consecutive Run
- Other natural pivots based on your tiles
Plus: The “garbage hand” strategy: what if you have a few Jokers after the deal but not much direction in the rest of your tiles?
This video is part of my Mahj 102 series for the 2026 NMJL card, where we break down each section so you can play smarter and win more consistently.
