Date Night Mahjong | How to Mahj with Two Players, Siamese Mahjong

Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s the perfect time to teach your spouse how to play mahjong! If you have been longing to get your husband into playing mahjong, here is the foolproof way to bring him to the game.

Two-player mahjong, also called Siamese mahjong, is a great date night game and an excellent way to get more games in!

When playing mahjong with two people, each player plays two hands at the same time. You win 2-person mahjong by being the first to mahj both hands!

To set up for a game of Siamese mahjong, place two racks in front of each player, turn the tiles face down in the center of the table and self draw your tiles. One player will draw 27 and the other will draw 28. There is no Charleston in 2-player mahjong and no courtesy pass. Simply draw tiles and start gameplay.

Gameplay in two person mahjong follows the same patterns as a four player game. Each player starts a turn by drawing a tile from the face down tiles on the table and ends their turn with a discard face up. You can swap tiles between your two racks throughout the game, which gives great flexibility! The first to mahj both hands wins!
