Racks and Pushers in American Mahjong: Why we designed ours to be extra long & made of polycarbonate

American mahjong is unique in using racks as part of the game set up. Racks are used to hold the tiles that are dealt to you in American mahjong and the top part of the rack is used to display exposed tiles when they are called for an exposure and again when you win mahjong and expose your full hand.

Our Large Clear Racks with pushers are back in stock now: https://southernsparrow.com/products/large-mahjong-racks-clear

At Southern Sparrow, each product is designed to be an heirloom product, meaning it is meant to last for many years to come and to be passed down from generation to generation. When designing our racks with pushers, we chose to make them out of an ultra durable, polycarbonate material, the same material used to create bulletproof glass. This means they can be used and abused and thrown around in your mahj bag and on the go. Our racks will never twist snap or break and if they ever do, we will replace them for you!

We also considered the size of modern American mahjong tile sets when designing our racks. Because Southern Sparrow tiles, and many other modern brands, are larger than antique tiles, we wanted to create a tile rack that can accommodate larger tiles and a full length wall without any tail or overhang. Even if you were playing with blanks and extra jokers, our racks can accommodate all of your tiles, so you can push out your wall confidently!
